Approach
Trauma-Informed Care
Onyx’s Clinical Director, Isabelle Rodker, has worked extensively alongside some of the pioneers of trauma-informed care, helping to develop a robust evidence base for this approach and teaching a respected training course for counsellors.
Trauma-informed care is a holistic approach to child welfare, characterised by a focus on attachment-based interventions and the understanding that a nurturing environment is critical to a child’s healthy development.
This approach, which emphasises family-like care environments and psychological support for young people affected by abuse, neglect, and violence, has been highly influential in shaping youth rehabilitation policies and practices that fully address the psychological needs of children.
Creative Supervision
As an HCPC registered arts therapist, Isabelle supports all members of the Onyx team to use creative techniques during supervision, to help frontline practitioners reach a deeper understanding of their clients’ needs.
Highly effective creative methods include using sand trays, working with images, and art making. This Jungian approach of using creativity to explore the unconscious provides powerful opportunities to gain deeper insight, counteract unconscious bias, and explore the impact of countertransference and projection.
